Supervising Hydrologist

Bureau of Water Use Regulation

 

Job Summary:

This position is a supervisory position providing technical guidance and support to the Bureau of Water Use Regulation staff. This position oversees staff in the Palm Bay Service Center, and oversees and reviews selected highly complex professional hydrologic and/or geologic work related to consumptive use permit applications.

 

Job duties include:

  • Supervises assigned hydrologists in Bureau of Water Use Regulation, reviews technical staff reports, reviews requests for additional information and other staff correspondence with the public; manages workload and permit application assignments; issues permits; provides technical guidance; verifies completeness and accurate processing of applications in EReg; manages workloads and permit application assignments, solves problems, provides excellent customer service; effectively communicates and coordinates with other supervising hydrologists; meets deadlines; provides for excellent time management.
  • Oversees and reviews selected highly complex CUP applications and compliance issues; provides technical guidance and support to Bureau of Water Use Regulation staff.
  • Mentors and trains staff at all levels; defines, documents and shares business processes; positively influences staff; effectively communicates up and down Bureau and Division structure; performs administrative functions such as performance reviews and timecard approval; works with and identifies staff professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned; gives presentations, assists Bureau Chief with program-wide projects or special requests; coordinates with other District programs, attends meetings as Water Use Regulation representative.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or a related field and five years of experience in hydrology, hydrogeology water resource management, water resource regulation or related experience, one of which must be leading a project team, coordinating activities of a workgroup, or serving as a team lead; or current registration with the State of Florida as a Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer, and three years subsequent experience related to hydrology, hydrogeology, water resource management, water resource regulation or related experience, one of which must be leading a project team, coordinating activities of a workgroup, or serving as a team lead.

 

Professional experience in the areas described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the

required education.

 

Skilled In:

Supervising professional technical staff; Mentoring and training staff; Documenting and sharing business processes; Managing and completing multiple tasks under specific timeframes; Organizing multiple projects and deadlines; Effectively communicating complex policy and technical information to internal and external customers; Using District regulatory software; Conflict resolution and negotiating; Working effectively with others of differing viewpoints to arrive at solutions.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

Mostly in an office environment sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products. Periodic field visits when necessary.

 

Certification/Licenses:

Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

 

State of Florida Licensed Professional Geologist or Engineer Preferred.

 

Additional Details:

Base Salary: $75,753.60 - $98,467.20

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
